Rosie the Riveters Awarded Congressional Gold Medal - ARRA Michigan Rosies at Ceremony

On April 10, 2024 in Washington D.C., the Rosie the Riveters of WWII were, collectively and symbolically, awarded a Congressional Gold Medal.

This honor represents many years of work on the part of American Rosie the Riveter Association (ARRA) members Mae Krier and the late Phyllis Gould, a couple of real WWII Rosies who proved that, “We Can Do It!”

Several Rosie the Riveters from Michigan, all ARRA members and around 100 years old, were in attendance at the official ceremony at the United States Capitol, by invitation from the Speaker of the House.

Says Jeannette Gutierrez, president of ARRA’s largest Michigan Chapter, “It’s wonderful to see the Rosie the Riveters finally get the recognition they deserve, and we’re so happy that some of the Rosies in our Michigan ARRA group are able to go to Washington and attend the ceremony. “

The American Rosie the Riveter Association (ARRA) lobbied long and successfully for the congressional honor… as well as for official recognition of March 21 as National Rosie the Riveter Day.

In addition, ARRA members in Michigan organized the first-ever all Rosie the Riveter Honor Flight to Washington in 2016, and organized a second all-Rosie Honor Flight in 2023. Says Gutierrez, “We Rosie supporters in Michigan are so proud to be a part of the American Rosie the Riveter Association, which has done so much of concrete value to recognize and honor the real Rosies of WWII.”

The American Rosie the Riveter Association (ARRA) is a national all-volunteer nonprofit group founded by the Rosies themselves to preserve their legacy and promote patriotic ideals. It is the oldest, largest and most active Rosie organization in the world, and has over 7,000 members nationwide with chapters in many states.
